Here is the thing about these free downloads that producers are giving out. They are just what they say, free downloads. Alot of producers are taking this route to lure in more customers. I personally think its shady and sort of on the pointless side. Its like going to the store and the lady giving out free food samples says "You can hold it but you can't eat it". Its a waste of space on your hard drive and a waste of your time. One of the biggest sites that are taking part in this annoying behavior is soundclick. Alot of producers there are luring in the customers, and also gaining millions of plays on their profile by putting up this false information.
As a producer myself I say why? What would be the purpose of misleading the potential customer to your site through puffery. The artist deserves more than to be treated like they always have a price tag on their head. I always tell other producers about this, and their reaction is always I am tired of giving away free beats.They're intention is most definitely noticed and slowly becoming a problem. Honest producers who really do have quality product, that they just want a few people to jump on are losing out. Artists are starting not to trust when producers say that they have free beats.
Not to say that anything in life is totally free, but a lack of money can put an aspiring artist in a strong bind that is hard to defeat. For generations the producer has been the one to get the artist out of that bind. We must continue to stand by our artist's side and be that rock they need. With out us alot of artists could not be heard. It is crucial, and absolutely vital that we begin to support the independent movement. The revolution we call independent music cannot stand alone. It needs artists, producers, a&r's everybody to get involved.
To the producers that are putting your pockets before your pride, shame on you. To the artists who are fed up with the behavior of some of these producers hold on and be strong.
